Philippines Airlines (PAL) is negotiating with Singapore Airlines (SIA) for a possible alliance, a top government source said yesterday.
“There is an ongoing negotiation with a new airline, Singapore Airlines," said the source who asked not to be named.
A team from the SIA is scheduled to arrive in the country next week, the source added.
The talks with SIA came after Cathay Pacific Airways said Wednesday it had broken off negotiations with PAL over disagreements on management control and valuation issues.
President Estrada also said earlier this week that the talks with the Northwest Airlines of the United States were unsuccessful.
However, Estelito Mendoza, a lawyer for PAL Chair Lucio Tan, yesterday said negotiations with Northwest were still underway although no agreement had been reached.@
