Tourism to be Hit Hard (4)
THE tourism industry is likely to lose heavily if Philippine Airlines stops flying.
Tourism Secretary Gemma Cruz-Araneta said PAL‘s closure will cut tourist traffic to the Philippines and its outlying island destinations.
Based on Department of Tourism data, the economy would lose about P259 million daily in tourism revenue with PAL's closure.
Another tourism official said visitor arrivals were down by half in 1997, and things could get worse if the flag carrier were to close.
