ONE airline on the brink of closure, two grounded by suspension. That leaves just local airline riding out the turbulence that is buffeting the air transport industry.
As negotiations went full blast to save Philippine Airlines (PAL) from going under, the government yesterday suspended the operations of Air Philippines until it passes a safety assessment audit.
The Air Transportation Office (ATO), in grounding Air Philippines, cited deficiencies in the airline's aircraft certification, manual, technical record and plane inspection procedures.
Air Philippines President Augusto Paiso promised to comply with all ATO requirements within two days.
Also under suspension for failing to meet ATO safety standards is Grand Air.
Now going it alone is Cebu Pacific. Conrado Ching
