MANILA (PNA) – Department of Justice (DoJ) Secretary Leila De Lima on Thursday disclosed that she may refuse to participate from government talks with Philippine Airlines (PAL) and pilots after she discovered that her cousin is one of the 25 pilots who resigned from the country's flag-carrier company.

Malacañang had said that President Benigno Simeon "Noynoy" Aquino III need not intervene in the labor dispute at PAL as it will be addressed and resolved at the Cabinet level.

The pilots resigned from PAL allegedly due to lack of security of tenure, unconducive working conditions and uncompetitive salary compared to other airlines.

"I learned yesterday (Wednesday) that one of the pilots who resigned is a first cousin of mine. I immediately disclosed it to Executive Secretary Pacquito Ochoa who informed PAL about it. If the PAL management is not comfortable, I will have to recuse myself," De Lima told reporters in a press conference.

The government had brokered a dialogue between the management and employees of PAL in order for them to come up with an amicable settlement of their labor dispute.

First Captain Emmanuel De Lima was one of the 25 pilots who resigned from PAL.
De Lima said that currently, they are evaluating the information they received from the separate dialogues they had with the management and pilots.

De Lima said that the information gathered will be used as basis of the government's possible actions to help settle the dispute.

However, De Lima refused to give details on the results of the dialogue because of the possibility of recusing herself.
