MANILA, Philippines--"The ball is now in the hands of Philippine Airlines."

This was the statement of the Flight Attendants and Stewards Association of the Philippines on the ongoing labor dispute between the airline company, as a conciliation meeting is set on Tuesday.
FASAP president Bob Anduiza called Tuesday's meeting a "last ditch effort for conciliation" and PAL's last chance to address issues of discrimination against female flight attendants, as threats of a labor strike still loom.

"The PAL-FASAP labor dispute is not about money. It is about discrimination," Anduiza said, responding to PAL's consistent appeal for the labor union to accept the airline's P105-million offer.
One of the issues raised by FASAP was PAL's alleged discrimination against its female flight attendants, where no maternity leaves were offered and the mandatory retirement age was 40 years old.

Anduiza also hit at PAL's appeal for intervention from the Labor department.

"PAL should not wait for a strike or pass the buck to the DOLE Secretary to correct its anti-labor and gender biased policies," he added.
